JOHN F. KENNEDY RECEIVES THE 2004 WATER FOR PEOPLE INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Water for People’s first Gala Celebration was sponsored by New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA), and Anchor Sponsors Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) and Metcalf & Eddy (M&E). The event took place on Saturday October 16, 2004 at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Dorchester, MA.

National Concrete Tanks is also proud to have been a sponsor for the Water for People Gala. We commend Water for People for its continuing efforts to provide safe and clean drinking water for people throughout the world.

Water for People (WWP) is an international humanitarian non-profit organization that deeply values water as an essential social, economic and environmental good. Throughout the world, WFP uses water as a catalyst for change in communities that lack access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene education.
Since 1991, Water for People has used water as a starting point in helping the world’s poor take their first steps out of poverty and into a future of hope. WFP initiates processes that foster pride, self-confidence and hope in bringing people together to build their own water and sanitation systems. By sharing our resources, our talents and our compassion we can save lives through safe water.

This year the WFP’s 2004 International Humanitarian Award honored the late President John F. Kennedy and his Administration for creating the Peace Corps. Caroline Kennedy Schlosberg accepted the award on behalf of her father via video tape.

The U.S. Peace Corps Director, Gaddi Vasquez, provided the keynote address. He discussed how the Peace Corps has grown since inception as well as future anticipated activities. John F. Kennedy’s dream of a Peace Corps helping other countries has developed into a much larger program than was originally planned. Many former Peace Corp volunteers were present at the gala demonstrating that they still offer their support to other countries.

Jack Hoffbuhr, American Water Works Association’s Executive Director and former Peace Corp volunteer discussed his personal experience as a Peace Corps volunteer.
